THE BASH STREET KIDS
Originally called When The Bell Rings, Leo Baxendale's 1954 creation got its snappier new name in 1956.   When Leo left The Beano in 1962, Bash Street was taken over by David Sutherland, who drew the strip until his semi-retirement in 1998;  in that year Nigel Parkinson was brought in as deputy.  Another artist, Tom Paterson, has kept up the high standard with his Bash Street Summer Specials.

Here we see Plug taking centre stage.   Danny, Sidney, Smiffy, Fatty and Toots are in the back row, with Wilfird, Spotty, and Erbert in front.

THE BEANO
The best comic Britain has ever seen first appeared in 1938, with Big Eggo the ostrich on the front page.   Characters since then include:
  • Lord Snooty
  • Dennis The Menace
  • Rodger The Dodger
  • Little Plum
  • The Three Bears
  • Minnie The Minx
  • Billy Whizz

You can meet The Bash Street Kids and others online at the official Beanotown site.  Go on - be a big kid!
